Skydance’s Behemoth Launched Today Despite Dire Technical Issues, Day 1 Patch Available For PS VR2

Skydance’s Behemoth is one of the two big releases for PS VR2 players this month – unless you live in Japan, that is. The game has been delayed in that region, and won’t be out until 2025.

Elsewhere though it’s currently available, but not with reviews from PSU and other publications ready. PSU was informed by a PR representative for the game that leading up to release and review codes being sent out, developer Skydance Games faced “a cascading hardware failure that delayed testing and certification of Skydance’s Behemoth across all platforms.”

It’s a credit to Skydance Games that the team still hit the December 5, 2024 launch for players on PS VR2 (not in Japan) and players on Meta Quest headsets, but the day one patch will only be available for PS VR2 players. If you’re getting ready to take down skyscraper-sized monsters on Meta Quest, you’ll have to wait a full week before the patch is sent out.

There’s been no clarification as to why it was delayed in Japan or why people have had their pre-orders refunded and the game taken off the PlayStation Store in Japan, as user Laser_Cowboy11 points out in a post where they share a statement from PlayStation.

We don’t exactly know what the hardware issue was that Skydance faced, but it was clearly enough to push things back at the last minute. We also don’t know if these hardware issues were even related to the delay in Japan, but they seem like a likely candidate.

In the meantime, we here at PSU have been checking out the game since the review code arrived this past Tuesday, so you can look forward to our review sometime next week.
