SMITE 2, the long-awaited sequel to one of the biggest MOBA’s in the world, SMITE, has finally been announced by developer Titan Forge Games.
Right away when it was announced, Titan Forge began trying to answer all the questions that would be top of mind for players.
Questions like, what makes this a full-blown sequel? What’s going to happen to all of my purchased content from SMITE, and will it transfer over?
On the subject of that last question, Titan Forge has said that no, your content from SMITE, paid or not, will not directly transfer over to SMITE 2.
The reason behind this, according to Titan Forge is the fact that SMITE 2 has been built entirely on Unreal Engine 5. The original SMITE was instead built on Unreal Engine 3.
The two-generational leap is what’s stopping Titan Forge from bringing every skin and piece of cosmetic from SMITE into SMITE 2.
During the keynote presentation announcing SMITE 2 they gave the example that taking just one skin from SMITE to SMITE 2 takes about two months of work at least.
Instead of spending time on ensuring players don’t lose their stuff, they decided from the beginning to put their efforts towards making SMITE 2 the best game it could be.
A consolation is that all the skins from SMITE’s current Year 11 will be cross-generational, and available in SMITE 2.
That’s all well and good, but this still leaves players holding the bag on pretty much all of their purchases in SMITE. To try and help compensate players for that, Titan Forge has a plan.
Players will be given the amount of Gems, an in-game currency, equivalent to all of their purchases in SMITE, whether the Gems they used for that purchase were earned in gameplay, or paid for.
What’s more is that players who’ve purchase a Founder’s Pack for SMITE 2 will have their Gems doubled.
Even if this doesn’t end up being the solution Titan Forge hopes it will be for fans, it’ll go down a lot easier so long as SMITE 2 lives up to expectations.
Titan Forge is clear about how confident it is in SMITE 2 throughout its keynote, and it looks like there’s a lot to be excited about.
