Rebellion’s World War II-based shooter franchise Sniper Elite is returning for a fourth instalment on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One this year.
Sniper Elite 4 takes place shortly after the events of its 2014 predecessor, and sees marksman Karl Fairburne head-shotting Nazi troops in the forests, mountains and coastal settlements of Italy in the year 1943.
Here, the stoic sniper finds himself teaming up with the Italian Resistance in order to help defend the country and put a stop to a “terrifying new threat.” It’s a vital mission too, as Fairburne’s failure would scupper any chances of Operation Overlord and D-Day.
Sniper Elite 4 will run at a native 1080p on Sony and Microsoft’s current-generation consoles, and benefits due to the fact the game will not be constrained by the limits of last-generation hardware such as the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Rebellion is aiming to “deliver the definitive World War II shooter for a generation.”
A release date has yet to be announced but we’ll be sure to bring you more news as we get it. It’s worth noting that Rebellion will be publishing Sniper Elite 4 itself instead of collaborating with 505 Games, who distributed the previous two entries the 10-million selling franchise.
