Sega announced today that due to an “overwhelmingly positive response to Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 from both press and fans around the world,” the game has been delayed. Of course, Sega says the game’s development time is being extended to ensure the highest quality product, but for us that means we won’t see it surface until the latter half of 2010. The game was originally slated for a summer release
More time, Sega says, will allow for more careful focus on the design of each level and to provide more polish. The game will be released on the download market. You’ll find it on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and WiiWare in late 2010. The game will also find its way to the iPhone and iPod Touch through Apple’s App Store.
