Sonic PS4 in development for 2015 release — report

SEGA is working on a new entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U.

That’s at least according to promotional material purportedly showcased at the Nuremberg Toy Fair recenlty. Spotted by Spindash, the info lists Sonic: Lost World and the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games 2014 release, as well as an as-yet untitled project for release next year.

It’s an interesting development, as SEGA currently has a three-game deal with Nintendo to secure the exclusive release of Sonic titles for Wii U and 3DS. However, it could be that the 2015 Sonic game is separate from this, or that SEGA has decided to move it to other platforms altogether.

Sonic’s last appearance on a Sony format came in the shape of Sonic Generations for PS3. The game remains one of the most celebrated outings from the Blue Blur after a string of poor releases over the past decade or so.
