The lineup for GamesCom Opening Night Live continues to swell on an almost daily basis, with host Geoff Keighley confirming on Twitter that Sonic Superstars is the latest addition to join the August 22 event.
Developed by Arzest and Sonic Team, Sonic Superstars features four playable characters — Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy — embarking on a side-scrolling adventurer to defeat Doctor Eggman and Fang the Sniper. While it doffs its cap to the old-school Sonic games, this latest entry in the Blue Blur’s long-running franchise modernises gameplay with some new mechanics.
Each character has unique abilities and players can jump in using co-op at any point, with support for up to four players, which is a first for a Sonic game. Many classic staples return, including the presence of zones, bosses, vertical loops, and special stages that house the seven Chaos Emeralds.
Sonic Superstars will be spin-dashing into stores in late 2023 for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
