Sonic Team Boss Says There’s ‘Currently No Plans’ For Sonic Adventure Remakes/Remasters

Takashi Iizuka, the head of Sonic Team, has said fans shouldn’t expect remakes or remasters of the classic Sonic Adventure games, as he’d rather spend the time developing a new game.

Speaking with Shack News, Iizuka-san revealed there’s no plans to spruce up the classic 3D platforming games, which were originally released for the Sega Dreamcast, although did say he was “appreciative” of everyone who enjoyed the Blue Blue’s early 3D outings.

I am really appreciative of everyone who likes the Sonic Adventure series, but when I think about what it would take to bring that game up to the standards and expectations of what the modern gaming audience would want, I think it would be about as much time and energy as it would to make a new title. So part of me is thinking maybe I should just make a brand new title and that’s why there are currently no plans.

Speaking of Sonic Adventure, a few years ago it was reported that Sonic Team were interested in working on a third entry in the franchise, although Iizuka later clarified that the Sonic Adventure 3 is not part of the plan going forward. Sure enough, the game has yet to be confirmed, and it’s not known if we’ll ever see a third outing.

Speaking during an interview in July last year, the Sonic Team boss revealed that he would like to make a Sonic RPG before he retires.
