Paramount Pictures has announced plans to release a fifth, as-yet untitled Sonic the Hedgehog movie on December 22, 2028, which has only been described so far as a “Sonic Universe feature.” Given that we know Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is hitting cinemas in March 2027, this is most likely a spin-off.
The Sonic movie franchise has already seen one offshoot in the form of the Knuckles TV series, which takes place between the second and third movies. As such, it’s not too hard to imagine that a spin-off movie could be in the pipeline too, potentially focussing on a specific character.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released in February 2020 just before the major coronavirus lockdown was instigated, and was followed by Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in April 2022. Finally, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 spin-dashed its way into theatres in December 2024. All three movies have generate over one billion dollars at the box office.
The last few years has seen SEGA releasing remasters of past Sonic titles, with Sonic Origins compiling the classic Mega Drive titles in one package, as well as Sonic x Shadow Generations, which remastered Sonic Generations alongside a brand new chapter featuring Shadow the Hedgehog.
