Sony Beaten To PS5 Trademark In India By Three Months, Trademark Now In Contention

Sony is facing a somewhat embarrassing issue in India as it doesn’t actually own the PS5 trademark in the country. Nope, instead, someone from Delhi actually managed to beat the platform holder to the rights by three months.

PS5 Trademark Is In Contention In India

Despite revealing details on the PS5 release date in numerous countries including the US, UK and Japan, Sony hasn’t confirmed any details about when the console will be available in India.

However, according to a report on The Make Reactor, the PS5 trademark for India was filed on October 29, 2019 by Hitesh Aswani, some three months before Sony got around to doing the same. As such, the trademark is currently in a contested state and is displayed as Opposed.

No doubt Sony will eventually get the rights to the PS5 trademark, but it’s still a setback for the company’s plans as far as the Indian market goes.

Speaking of which, the report states that the PS5 is likely to launch at ₹55,000 in India, which puts it slightly more expensive than the Xbox Series X.
