Sony briefs devs on motion controller

In a push to launch its new motion controller by spring 2010, Sony is showcasing the device to its development partners, providing extensive information about the controller’s properties, Kotaku reports. As Sony works with its development partners, turning them on to the PlayStation Eye-powered ‘wand,’ the company also provided some new details not revealed at E3.

The Eye accessory will feature force feedback rumble, and it will work with the Eye’s built-in microphone for voice recognition. You’ll also get to use up to four of the motion controllers at once.

The arrival of the unnamed motion controller will come with a “range of first-party and third-party content.” As Sony CEO Jack Tretton has previously stated, Sony is aiming for the new controller to function with all games.

Sony is investigating the ability to combine the motion control wand and the standard PlayStation 3 controller functions, with an example of “the motion controller as a sword and use of DualShock 3 as a shield.”

No price, launch date, or bundle plans have been announced.
