Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that it is increasing the price of PS5 yet again in Japan.
The standard edition of the PS5 will retail for 79,980 ($550) from September 2, 2024, which is a 13,000 yen ($90) increase from the current price point. Meanwhile, the PS5 Digital-Only Edition will also receive a price increase of 13,000 yen, bringing it to 72,980 ($505).

It’s not just the console that is receiving a price increase. The DualSense controller price is being bumped from 9,480 yen — 9,980 yen to 11, 480 — 11, 980 yen, while Sony is increasing the price of PS Portal from 29,980 to 34,980 yen.
Sony has already increased the PS5 price in Japan since its launch in November 2020, attributing the decision to “recent challenging external environment, including the current fluctuations in the global economic situation, and the impact will have on our business.”
The PS5 was plagued by stock shortages during its first 24 months or so on the market, brought on by a lack of manufacturing components as a result of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.
