Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld will be region-free, Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios has announced.
This, of course, means that the device will be able to play games from any territory, so you can essentially get your mitts on Vita this year following its Japanese December 17 launch and still have the ability to enjoy localised titles on it.
Despite this, Yoshida-san has urged consumers to wait it out rather than plonk down the cash for a Japanese unit.
"There are people who are interested in importing the Japanese version of PS Vita from outside Japan, but I personally do not recommend that," he said in a Tweet.
"Sorry I’m not explaining well, but from my experience owning both US and J game consoles of everything, there tend to be minor nuisances.
"Like inconsistency between the use of x and o buttons between system software and games."
PlayStation Vita is due for release in western markets in early 2012.
