Sony Doubled The Price Of Horizon Zero Dawn On PS4 Ahead Of The Remaster’s Launch

Horizon Zero Dawn is getting a full PS5 remaster with Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered arriving this coming Halloween. If you already own the base PS4 version of the game, and want to grab the new version then you’re in luck, because you can upgrade to the PS5 version for only $9.99.

If you didn’t already own Horizon Zero Dawn, and thought you could get the cheaper $10 upgrade price on top of the relatively cheap base PS4 model price, then think again.

While we were all still gawking at how good this newer version of Guerilla’s open-world-robot-dinosaur-hunter-simulator looks, Sony went ahead an doubled the price of Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4.

Spotted by VGC, HZD on PS4 has been $19.99 for the last two years, per PSPrices. Then, on September 25, 2024, a day after the remaster was announced, it doubled in price to $39.99.

That means if you buy the base version of Horizon Zero Dawn now, and then upgrade, you’re spending $49.99, instead of the $29.99 you would’ve spent if you bought HZD last week, and then upgraded this coming Halloween to the remaster.

This is definitely the kind of business tactic that stings for consumers, especially because it’s a case where PlayStation is clearly just trying to take advantage of its players. Not to mention the fact that if they’re grabbing HZD, a first-party game, they are probably already locked into the PS ecosystem.

Or if they’re brand new to PlayStation, this is the kind of move that can alienate newcomers, and teach them from the get-go to expect these poor tactics from Sony. It’s much easier to walk away from a brand you just started taking a chance on, then one you’ve developed a relationship with over years and years.
