Sony has no plans for PS4 and PS VR bundle just yet

Sony has no plans to bundle the PlayStation 4 with PlayStation VR any time soon, the president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has revealed.

Speaking with Gamereactor, Jim Ryan said that while it’s an option the company may look at in the future, there are no plans in place to offer such a bundle for the launch period. Instead, consumers can pick up a bundle featuring PS VR and the PlayStation Move.

No, we won’t do it at launch. I think we will wait and see just how well this thing is received in the market over the period of months and it may be one thing we could look at. It would be quite an expensive bundle,” said Ryan.

We are still a number of months away from launching this thing. We are very excited about VR but it’s not proven so we will see how it goes and then we will start thinking about the future. We are very encouraged, we are very optimistic and very intrigued by VR. We hope it’s going to be a success and we think it’s going to be a success but at this stage it will be really premature to start looking at things that would compromise the nature of the basic PS4 experience.”

Sony announced at GDC earlier this week that PS VR will be released in October 2016 priced  at $399/£349. The console maker hopes to have around 50 games out for the headset by the end of the year, and has confirmed that over 230 developers are working on titles for the device.

PS VR will be compatible with a number of high-profile games, including Ace Combat 7, Dreams, Gran Turismo and Tekken 7.
