Sony Interactive Entertainment formed, merges PlayStation’s Sony Computer Entertainment & Sony Network Entertainment International

Sony today announced the formation of Sony Interactive Entertainment, LLC, a new company combining PlayStation business units Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International.

By unifying the two organizations, Sony aims to better support PlayStation’s consoles, games, and online services. SCE produced and supported the hardware and software for PlayStation consoles, while Sony Network Entertainment International ran all the network services including PlayStation Network, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Vue.

“By integrating the strengths of PlayStation’s hardware, software, content and network operations, SIE will become an even stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation business,” explained Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Group Executive in charge of Network Entertainment of Sony Corporation.

“Along with our business partners, SIE will develop pioneering services and products that will continue to inspire consumers’ imaginations and lead the market. We will work hard to maximize corporate value by coordinating global business operations across San Mateo, Tokyo, and London by leveraging local expertise.”

SIE will be based in San Mateo, California and will start “establishing key global business operations in Tokyo and London” on Friday, April 1, 2016. You can read further details here.
