Sony Corporation has revealed that 2,000 jobs are to be cut by the end of the year through an “early retirement" plan.
The cuts are believed to save the company 30 billion yen ($378 million) per year across all divisions. Furthermore, the layoffs are said to hit the hardware giant’s head office the hardest, with around 20 per cent of workers leaving.
It also comes on the heels of this year’s announcement that 10,000 jobs were to be cut worldwide, as well as the closing of internal studios Liverpool and Zipper Interactive.
Sony posted a Q1 2012 loss of $312 million earlier this year, with a loss of $45 million reported for its gaming division.
