Sony Looks Unlikely To Host State Of Play Or PlayStation Showcase This Month

Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking increasingly unlikely to host a State of Play or PlayStation Showcase in May, despite the format holder traditionally hosting an event during this period for over five years now.

While nothing official has been confirmed yet, reliable tipster NateDrake on ResetEra has said that they “haven’t heard anything about a May event from Sony for this year.” This doesn’t mean Sony definitely isn’t going to host an event, as sometimes they wait until the last minute to announce that they’re going to host something. For now however, it doesn’t seem too likely.

Back in February, Jeff Grubb stated that he heard rumblings about Sony having internal discussions about a PlayStation Showcase for summer, so there’s a chance something could still happen at a later date.

We’re approaching the time of year where E3 would usually happen, and in its place there’s Summer Games Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase. As such, one would expect Sony to have something of their own planned, although given the size of Summer Games Fest, we could simply get some of the major PlayStation news there.

In terms of upcoming PS5 titles, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is just around the corner in late June, and we have Ghost of Yotei releasing later in the year. However, details on Marvel’s Wolverine have been quiet for a while now, and we also have Saros due next year, so there’s always room for a State of Play to give us some info on titles that set to arrive beyond 2025.
