Sony loses Final Fantasy XIII exclusivity

It’s official people, Final Fantasy XIII will appear on the Xbox 360.

During Microsoft’s 90 minute E3 press conference, Yoichi Wada, president of Square-Enix, announced that Final Fantasy XIII would also be released on the Xbox 360. To clarify, that’s outside of Japan, where the title will release first and be exclusive to the PS3. The game will release simultaneously on the PS3 and 360 in Europe and North America.

This has got to be a real blow to Sony, though they likely already knew the details far before the public announcement. Frankly though, we’re a bit surprised that Sony wasn’t willing to dig into its deep coffers to keep one of the biggest games of 2009 exclusive to its platform. As of now however, Final Fantasy Versus XIII appears to remain a PS3 exclusive.

While you may be down in the dumps at the moment, remember that Sony may have a trick or two of their own that we’ll see at their E3 press conference tomorrow. Stay tuned.
