Sony platforms dominate Japanese hardware chart

The latest Media Create data for Japan has revealed that Sony is continuing to outpace its rivals in weekly hardware sales, with two of the electronic manufacturer’s flagship consoles – PSP and PS3 – nabbing first and second place, respectively.

Sony’s trusty slab sold through 59,568 units for the week ended March 8, followed by the PS3, which shifted an impressive 39,835 during the same period, thrashing Nintendo’s DS and Wii in the process.

As mentioned previously here on PSU, PS3 sales have spiked significantly following the release of Sega’s Yakuza 3 a couple of weeks back. We’re also betting Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 had something to do with it too, giving that the PS3 version has sold a mammoth 319,000 units to date.

Fingers crossed sales remain strong for the foreseeable future.
