Sony: PS4 to have best launch line-up in PlayStation history

Sony is confident that the PlayStation 4 will boast the strongest launch line-up in the company’s history.

Speaking with Gamasutra, PS4 lead architect and Naughty Dog veteran Mark Cerny noted that the machine’s line-up will be bolstered by the convenience of porting engines from PC to PS4 in a period of “weeks, not months.”

He did, however, remain tight-lipped as to the identity of many of PS4’s day-one titles outside of the usual suspects such as Killzone: Shadow Fall and inFamous: Second Son.

“There are many, many ways to control how the resources within the GPU are allocated between graphics and compute," he said. "Of course, what you can do, and what most launch titles will do, is allocate all of the resources to graphics. And that’s perfectly fine, that’s great. It’s just that the vision is that by the middle of the console lifecycle, that there’s a bit more going on with compute."

While Sony has yet to lift the lid on much of its launch plans for PS4, it doesn’t take a genius to guess that number of third-party titles – such as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Watch Dogs – will complement the console maker’s first-party output.

PS4 was announced during a special New York City event back in February, where Sony confirmed a holiday 2013 release window for its next-generation console. The new DualShock controller was also shown off at length.
