A new PlayStation 3 firmware update, "security patch" v3.56, is now available for download from the PlayStation Network in North America.
Eric Lempel, Sony’s VP of Network Operations (Americas), announced the patch on the PlayStation Blog.
The new firmware undoubtedly addresses potential security and piracy concerns stemming from hacker George "GeoHot" Hotz’s custom PS3 firmware. Join a discussion about GeoHot and his the custom firmware on our forum.
Like all previous firmware updates, v3.56 is mandatory for online play. If you choose not to download the update, you will be unable to access the PlayStation Network.
