Sony responds to February 2011 NPD figures

Sony’s steamed in with its response to NPD hardware numbers for the month of February 2011, though again has opted not to divulge any specific sales figures for the PlayStation 3.

News emerged overnight that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 cemented itself as the top-selling games console last month in the US, shifting 535,000 units. Wii came in second place, moving 454,000 consoles.

However, while refusing to say how much its flagship console sold in February, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) senior director of Corporate Communications, Patrick Seybold, observed that the PlayStation brand enjoyed solid growth in the period:

"NPD’s February numbers illustrate continued growth of the entire PlayStation 3 ecosystem, including increases in hardware, software and peripheral sales," commented Seybold.

"PlayStation’s exclusive titles, combined with stereoscopic 3D and precision motion controlled gaming, continue to resonate with consumers, and we look forward to furthering the momentum with MotorStorm Apocalypse and SOCOM 4 next month."
