Sony responds to June 2010 NPD figures

Sony America has issued its response to June’s NPD hardware figures, highlighting the eleventh consecutive month of year-on-year growth for the PlayStation 3.

The company’s flagship console has seen unit sales increase 42 percent since January, with year-on-year sales for the month of June up by a whopping 85 percent. Furthermore, software sales were up 42 percent since the beginning of the year, with year-on-year sales for June up 17 percent.

“Video games are fueling new innovation for the entire consumer entertainment category and today’s numbers are a testament to the big impact we’ll play this holiday,” commented SCEA’s Patrick Seybold.

“With a healthy flow of PS3s back in the channel, and eleven months of PS3’s consecutive growth behind us, we’re confident the PS3 will become the main entertainment hub for many new consumers this year and provide countless reasons to congregate in the living room.”

Elsewhere, the platform holder turned its attention to the future, observing that the latter half of 2010 will offer PS3 gamers “groundbreaking experiences in 3D and new motion control games with PlayStation Move” in addition to current content driving features such as Hulu Plus, MLB.TV, and Netflix.
