Sony Reveals PS5 Has Shipped 92.2 Million Units Worldwide

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PS5 has shipped 92.2 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2020.

Speaking during its latest financial results for the three-month period ended December 31, 2025, the format holder revealed that its flagship console shifted eight million units during the quarter, a figure down 1.5 million on the same period last year.

Software for PS5 and PS4 sold a combined 97.2 million units during the three-month period, an increase of 1.3 million from the same period last year. Of these, 13.2 million units were first-party games — a 1.6 million increase over the previous fiscal year — with 76 percent of software sales being full game digital downloads, an increase of two percent during the same period last year.

The PS5 was released in November 2020 during the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in a shortage of manufacturing components leading to stock shortages. While the console enjoy a successful launch, scalpers quickly took advantage of the situation by reselling new stock at exorbitant prices until the shortages finally subsided some 18 months after.
