Sony Corporation announced today that it has reduced its forecast of PlayStation 3 units sold by March from 11 million to 9.5 million.
Despite this, sales of the company’s handheld system, PlayStation Portable, surpassed expectations, and the firm now expects to sell a total of 13 million units for the current business year.
News comes following the platform holder’s Q3 financial results, where the company saw a six per cent increase, while it’s games division achieved profitability thanks largely to the reduction in manufacturing costs for the PS3.
Operating profits reached JPY 189.36 billion compared to the previous years JPY 178.91 billion. Finally, operating profit forecasts for the year to March were cut from JPY 450 billion to JPY 410 billion.
