Sony Santa Monica has been the God Of War studio pretty much since its earliest days, with the first PS2 release being the studio’s second game following its debut title Kinetica.
Ever since the first God Of War game, that’s been the one franchise the studio has stuck with – every other game they’ve done has been a God Of War title. Now though, with Ragnarok in the rearview, it looks like we’ll be getting a brand new IP from Sony Santa Monica, for the first time in more than two decades.
Spotted by Eurogamer, a ResetEra user spotted that a character supervisor at Sony Santa Monica said on their LinkedIn profile they were “thrilled” to be back at Sony Santa Monica and to be “looking after the entire character development pipeline on their new IP.”
That wording has been changed since it was spotted and reported on, and while it doesn’t qualify as actual confirmation of a new IP, it does a lot of the heavy lifting towards that.
It’s been rumoured that the studio is working on a sci-fi game, and with creative director Cory Barlog tweeting cryptically like he’s teasing a sci-fi game definitely supports that.
Whatever is coming next from Sony Santa Monica, it’s exciting that they’ll be working on something new, and applying their talents outside of Kratos’ and the world they built around him.
