The CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has played down suggestions that PlayStation Vita’s days are numbered.
Speaking with GameSpot, Jim Ryan said that Sony’s latest handheld still has one hundred titles in development for the system, which has struggled to set tills alight since its release in the U.S. and Europe in 2012.
"No, not at all. We’re still selling respectable quantities. We have a hundred games in development, and you might say, ‘Well yeah but they’re all indie games,’ but many of these games review very highly. Also the PS4’s Remote Play feature is something that is valued a lot."
However, Ryan conceded that the portable games market isn’t what it used to be back when the DS and PlayStation Portable were slugging it out for handheld supremacy.
"There’s no disputing that it’s not the size it used to be. It’s a much smaller market than when the DS and PSP were in their glory days. But that market still does exist," he said.
Despite this, Ryan stopped short of confirming if the PS Vita would be Sony’s final stab at the handheld market.
