When Sony announced PlayStation Plus at E3 this year, little was mentioned about specific features that would be included in the subscription service. Since then, we’ve seen more details and learned that some of the offerings would be quite generous, like a free copy of LittleBigPlanet to European subscribers.
But soon after the service was revealed at E3, a number of European PlayStation sites had ad material that seemed to indicate PlayStation Plus would include cross-game voice chat. The information on those sites was promptly removed, leaving many to wonder if Sony either forgot to mention this feature during its press conference, or if the ad material was posted prematurely.
Either way, Sony has continued to state that the cross-game voice chat is something fans have requested, and therefore the company is looking at ways to implement the feature. A post on the PlayStation Blog backs up this idea: “Cross-game voice chat is a feature we know our passionate user base has asked and we’ll continue to look at as a viable offering for PlayStation Network.”
For the time being, it appears we won’t see cross-game voice chat on PlayStation 3s, but that statement from Sony could indicate that if the feature is implemented, perhaps is would be available for all PSN users.
