Sony pushed 1.36 million PlayStation 3’s in the United States in December, according to figures released today by the NPD Group. While that figure is quite impressive, it pales in comparison to the nearly 3.9 million Wiis sold in the same month. Compared to its competition, the Wii sold more than the PS3, Xbox 360, PSP and PlayStation 2 combined.
Last month Sony sold roughly 50,000 more PS3s than Xbox 360s. The PS2 and PSP sold relatively well in December, with combined sales around 1 million.
Here are the numbers from Nov. 29, 2009 to Jan. 2, 2010.
* Wii – 3,810,000
* Nintendo DS – 3,310,000
* PlayStation 3 – 1,360,000
* Xbox 360 – 1,310,000
* PSP – 654,700
* PlayStation 2 – 333,2000
We’ll have a response from Sony shortly.
