Sony shoots down PS3 redesign rumors

Sony has poured cold water on rumors suggesting the platform holder intends on announcing a redesigned PlayStation 3 at next month’s E3 convention in Los Angeles.

Word on the web points to two hardware-related revelations at the show, one of which is believed to be that of the hotly rumored PSP 4000 (or, as recent reports would have you believe, the PSP-Go!), the other being a trimmed up PS3 redesign.

However, speaking to CVG on the matter, a Sony UK rep squashed any hopes of seeing a sleeker, sexier PS3 at the show, commenting: “We currently don’t have any plans for a redesigned PS3.”

While reports on a revamped PSP have been doing the rounds for some time now, this is the first we’ve heard on PS3 receiving the same treatment. Yet, while the latter appears firmly ruled out, the latest reports on PSP-Go! suggest a formal announcement on the handheld at E3 is inevitable.

Stay tuned.
