Philip Reitinger, former director of the U.S. National Cyber Security Center, has been appointed by Sony to head the platform holder’s newly-created chief information security officer post.
Based in Washington, Reitinger has previously worked for Microsoft and the U.S. Department of Defense, and in his new role as senior vice president will report directly to general counsel Nicole Seligman.
The move comes in wake of the PlayStation Network security breach that occurred back in April 2011, which compromised 100 million user accounts and forced Sony to bring the service offline for a number of weeks.
A spokesperson for Sony commented, "Certainly the network issue was a catalyst for the appointment," adding, "We are looking to bolster our network security even further."
