In an interview with GTPlanet, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) boss Jim Ryan discusses releasing Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3 as opposed to PS4, plans to support the game post-release and the future of one of Sony’s biggest franchises.
Ryan touched on releasing GT6 in the same timeframe as when the PS4 launches, and any potential issues it may cause.
“While we recognize the issue and it’s definitely one that needs to be looked at carefully, we’re not concerned about it," said Ryan.
He also refers to the PS3’s large 70+ million user base as a reason for launching on that console, citing comparisons with Gran Turismo 1 and 2 on PS1 and the gap between those two in terms of content.
Regarding DLC for GT6, Ryan says, “I think that we very much cut our teeth on DLC with GT5, and I think there’s a real desire to make a quantum leap with GT6. Plans are not yet disclosed so I can’t talk in detail about what they are but there is a real desire to make a step change and take it to a whole different level."
The executive was also asked about the PlayStation Vita, a platform yet to receive its own Gran Turismo game. Ryan declares, “There is nothing to report just yet, but we look at all our platforms and love all our children equally, ha!”
That sounds like something may be announced soon to us.
Whatever the case may be, any updates on Gran Turismo 6 or any hypothetical game for the PS Vita, we will have the latest here at PSU.com.
