Sony teases PS3 owners with in-game XMB hoax

Sony has a cruel sense of humor by teasing PS3 owners that in-game Xross Media Bar (XMB) access was apparently coming soon and all it took was a t-shirt.

SCEA’s Official PlayStation blog recently updated their Flickr page from GDC ’08 with a "funny" image, shirts that proudly showed off the phrase "In-Shirt XMB." The internet had already been ablaze with rumors of in-game XMB being confirmed this week at GDC, but for now we will just have to wait as Sony let everyone know that is just the way they like to have fun.

"It’s us being cheeky. It’s a developer’s conference, not hardware or firmware, so no announcements on that front this week." said Jeff Rubenstein on the Official PlayStation Blog, "If by “VERY soon” you mean this week – debunked. I see the same rumors, and they’re just that – rumors. Literally 95% of what I’ve read this week is just groundless speculation. But hey, that’s the game biz."

But regardless of the hidden meaning of the shirt, one fact that can be taken from them is that Sony has listened to the consumer’s demands and hopefully will be implementing this long sought feature soon. If you remember , back at CES 2008, Sony Rep Paul Purdy dropped the news at that in-game XMB access was confirmed for 2008, but could not speculate on a specific time frame. It may be only a matter of time before we hear some news with regards to this, but as a Myth Buster to all of you, the myth has been busted!
