Sony Unveils Base PS5 AI Upscaler Quick Spectral Super Resolution

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution for the PS5, which is essentially the PS5 Pro’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution but for the base version of the console.

The technology uses a new performance tier of artificial intelligence upscaling, and is built on a streamlined neural network architecture, using hand-tuned implementation that maximises performance on the standard version of Sony’s console.

Daniel Craig, Graphic Research and Development Principe Engineer for SIE, commented:

[PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution] analyzes game images pixel by pixel and uses [artificial intelligence] to upscale them with more detail and stability than conventional approaches; until now, its computational demands made bringing that experience to [base PlayStation 5] impossible. While [PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution] remains the gold standard on [PlayStation 5] Pro, [Quick Spectral Super Resolution] provides some notable improvements to both image detail and image stability on [PlayStation 5].

Among the first games to use this new upscale will be Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei, with patches for both games now available.
