Sony unveils new motion sensing technology

In the early 90s, one of the biggest technological anticipations was “virtual reality” – the ability to immerse yourself in a videogame without any extra peripherals such as controllers. As we nearly off the first decade in this new millennium, the notion of VR will not pass over the videogame industry without leaving a lasting impact.

With that said, Sony has introduced a new motion sensing technology that could be a major touchstone for the PlayStation 3 in this generation of gaming. With no official name given to it, this impressive technology uses the PlayStation Eye component to track the player’s head movements without the need of any additional devices.

It is said that this technology could be used as a device for FPS games to allow players to lean over corners for better vantage points, or even implement into boxing games such as Fight Night to duck and dodge those painful blows.

While this will clearly be a PlayStation 3 feature, Sony has not yet revealed any games that will support such technology nor have they given a release date.

However, PlayStation Universe will do our best to bring you up to speed on any details as they become available.
