Sony’s Hermen Hulst Discusses Day-One PC Releases, Live Service Games To Launch Simultaneously On PS5 & PC

Hermen Hulst, who is soon to step into the role of co-CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has revealed that live service games from the format holder will launch day-and-date for the PC and PS5.

However, when it comes to PlayStation Studios’ tentpole single-player franchises, the console manufacturer has a slightly different strategy in mind. Here’s what Hulst had to say on the matter:

Indeed, we are bringing our titles to the PC platform, and we have a dual approach here. On the live-service side, we are releasing titles simultaneously, so day and date, on PlayStation 5 and PC. But, with our temple titles, our single-player, narrative-driven titles, that are, as you saw on the presentation, the backbone of what PlayStation Studios has delivered in recent years and our history, we take a more strategic approach, and we introduce our great franchises to our new audiences.

And we’re finding new audiences that are potentially going to be interested playing for example sequels on the PlayStation platform, we have high hopes we’re actually able to bring new players into PlayStation at large. The same goes for the work that we do with extending our great properties onto other media, such as television series and film for example as you have seen with The Last of Us on HBO and Gran Truism the film, that brings in new players to our franchises as well.

Sony has been pushing hard on the PC front the past few years, delivering a number of its key first-party titles for the PC including God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and many more.
