South Park: Stick of Truth release date revealed

At great, long last, we finally have a release date for South Park: The Stick of Truth, Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s RPG adaptation of the ludicrously funny animated show.

December 10, 2013.

Yes, 2013: as unlikely as the game’s 2013 release was starting to seem, it will, in fact, land on store shelves this year. And I couldn’t be more excited–Matt and Trey have expressed on several occasions that Stick of Truth is their attempt to thwart the "South Park games suck" stereotype by playing an active, even critical, role in development and writing, aiding Obsidian Entertainment’s RPG veterans. For example, the demands of the game, which casts the player as a customizable "New Kid" in South Park, meant Matt and Trey needed to create an official map of the sleepy Colorado town–something which the cutaway TV format has never required.

This map is one of several bonuses in the just-announced Grand Wizard Edition, which also includes a six-inch replica figure of Grand Wizard Cartman and four exclusive costumes that grant bonuses to weapon damage, gold drops, and other stats.

The game is also incredibly funny and looks like tons of fun to play. My extended E3 preview had me ready to declare Stick of Truth one of the best games at the show.

Can this blockbuster South Park video game match up to the hit TV show? Give us your thoughts in the comments, and look for Stick of Truth on December 10 in the U.S. and December 12 in the U.K.
