“Space Oddity” Being Removed From Alan Wake Over “Changes In Licensing”

Remedy will be removing David Bowie’s iconic track Space Oddity from Alan Wake, with the song removed from the credits and original soundtrack to be replaced with a brand new original song, due to “changes in licensing,” according to a report from Polygon.

The song replacing Bowie is called Strange Moons, written by Petri Alanko, the composer for Alan Wake and Control.

It’s an unfortunate reality of any video game with licensed content, specifically music. It’s common with driving games, sports games, and the odd narrative game that, like Alan Wake, used licensed tracks to great effect. Licenses changing or expiring make older titles in the genres impossible to purchase save for second-hand copies.

This isn’t even the first time that Alan Wake has run into issues due to its soundtrack including multiple licensed games.

You’ll see the change come in the form of an update on September 10.
