Developer Spike Chunsoft is considering a third main entry in the Danganronpa game franchise.
When Siliconera asked about the possibility of a Danganronpa 3, series producer Yoshinori Terasawa replied, "We are absolutely thinking about making a third Danganronpa, but we haven’t decided on anything specific just yet. I’m still talking with the rest of our staff about what we could do. I don’t know when we might be able to actually announce anything, so please wait patiently for that!"
Danganronpa has grown from humble beginnings as a PlayStation Portable visual novel to become a multimedia franchise. Its Battle Royale/Hunger Games-inspired premise featuring high school students forced to murder one another and Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney-like gameplay made for a thrilling experience. Two main games were released for the PSP, which were then ported to smartphones and the PlayStation Vita. A third-person shooter spin-off is in the works for the Vita as well. Outside of games, Danganronpa spawned novels, manga, and an anime adaptation (available streaming on Hulu and Funimation).
The Vita version of the first game, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, is now available in North America and Europe. Check out our full review here. The sequel, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, will land on Western Vita handhelds this fall.
