Square ‘classic’ games could make return as indies invited to pitch ideas

Some of Square Enix’s ‘classic’ games could be resurrected as part of the Square Enix Collective crowdfunding platform.

As part of the initiative, which has gone live today, indie developers can now pitch their ideas for Gex, Anachronox and Fear Effect, with more titles from its back catalogue possibly becoming available in the future.

It works like this:

– Indie devs pitch an idea to Square, who are looking for unique ideas for three of its IPs.
– The community will provide feedback on the ideas.
– If feedback is good, then the title will be open to crowdfunding.

On the Collective site, Square confirms what their cut of the profits will be:

“On the business side, we’ll still take 5% of net crowdfunds raised (assuming the initial target is reached); and we will also distribute the game when it’s done – for that we take the standard distribution fee of 10% net sales revenue, but we’ll also charge a 10% license fee for the use of the IP.”

Any of these games that you’d like to see being brought back from the dead?
