Square Enix Is ‘Considering’ More Remasters Of Older Titles Due To Success Of Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters

Square Enix has said that the success of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series has resulted in the publisher now ‘considering’ more remasters of its back catalogue.

Asked during its 43rd Annual Shareholders’ Meeting if it was planning to remaster more older games, the Square board replied:

We will refrain from sharing information about new titles, but we are considering various ideas within the company and hope that you will look forward to forthcoming announcements.

Elsewhere, the Final Fantasy creator was also asked why it has “longer gaps between game releases than its peers do.”

I will refrain from speaking in specifics, but I will say that we believe that the strengthening of our internal development organization will be of benefit as the difficulty of developing major titles is becoming extremely high, which also has implications for development lead times.

We hope that this reinforcement of our organization will promote the development not only of major titles but also new IPs under the new management team.

Square Enix launched Final Fantasy XVI on June 22 exclusively for the PS5, with the game having sold over three million copies worldwide.
