Japanese analyst Hideki Yasuda has reported that Square Enix labelled Life Is Strange: Double Exposure a “large loss” for the publisher giant during its latest financial briefing.
Square Enix boss Takashi Kiryu apparently did not divulge any figures for the latest chapter in the narrative-based drama series, but it doesn’t sound like the game performed well admits middling reviews and polarising fan reception. At the time of its reveal, there was a lot of hype surrounding Double Exposure due to the fact it reintroduced Max Caulfield from the original Life is Strange as a playable character.

Details on Life Is Strange’s commercial failure were somewhat overshadowed by reports that Final Fantasy XVI sold only 500,000 — 1 million copies in the last year, which is obviously a huge disappointment for such a major franchise. Keep in mind that Square Enix hasn’t made any formal comment on sales figures for either game at the time of writing.
Back in January 2025, the publisher sent out a survey to fans in the hopes of garnering feedback on Life Is Strange: Double Exposure.
Life Is Strange: Double Exposure is available for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S, and was developed by Deck Nine Games, who also worked on Life Is Strange: Before The Storm, which is a prequel to the original DONTNOD-developed Life Is Strange, as well as Life Is Strange: True Colors.
