Final Fantasy publisher Square Enix has revealed that it will be focussing on multiplatform games for its triple-A releases going forward, which forms part of a new medium-term business strategy.
This involves a three-year strategy that Square Enix hopes will result in ‘long-term growth,’ and known internally as Square Enix Reboots and Awakens. It is based around four pillars, one of which focuses on “strengthening customer contact points,” which involves shifting to a “multiplatform strategy.”
As a result, Square Enix will “aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStatin, Xbox, and PCs.” This allows the company to “build an environment where more customers can enjoy our titles in regards to major franchises and AAA titles, including catalogue titles.”

Elsewhere, the publisher said that it has to “shift from quantity to quality” and focus on releasing games that can be experienced by more players. To do this, it will “launch tales that ensure excitement that will bolster loyalty to our brand, placing top priority on bringing smiles to our customers’ faces,” and to “keep and build on the fan bases for our major franchises by regularly releasing AAA titles.”
In related news, the publisher indicated during a meeting on March 27 that it had cancelled or heavily rescoped a number of unannounced projects, although it has still yet to reveal any details on the matter.
