Square Enix Reveals Plans For ‘Various Projects’ To Celebrate The 30th Anniversary Of Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger is marking a significant milestone today in Japan as the game turns 30-years-old, and publisher Square Enix has revealed that it is planning on churning out various “projects” to celebrate the occasion.

Right now it isn’t know what the Final Fantasy creator has up its sleeves, although we imagine people will be holding out hope for a remaster of the original game or perhaps even a brand new entry in the series. Here’s the official blurb from Square Enix:

As we mark the 30th anniversary, we will be launching various projects that go beyond the world of the game over the next year to express our gratitude to everyone who has played Chrono Trigger so far.

Chrono Trigger was released for the SNES back in March 1995 and takes the form of an RPG where a group of adventures attempt to prevent a worldwide catastrophe by travelling through time. The game was spearheaded by Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii, and Akira Toriyama, otherwise known as the Dream Time.

Square Enix has brought Chrono Tigger to numerous other platforms over the years, including an enhanced port for the PlayStation in 1999 and a DS re-release in 2008 that featured all of the content in the PSOne version plus a more accurate translation, dual-scree mode, and a default run option. Chrono Trigger was a commercial and critical success, shipping over 3.5 million copies worldwide as of February 2018 across all formats excluding PC.
