Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura has told Famitsu magazine that while the Japanese giant acknowledges fan demand for a Final Fantasy VII remake, the company’s main priority is making new games.
Speaking during the publication’s special FFVIII anniversary feature, Nomura-san, who worked as a character designer for the critically-acclaimed PSone RPG, said Square’s desire is to match or top FFVII’s quality with its new titles.
In addition, the dev legend also expressed his belief that Yoshinori Kitase should be considered the true successor to the Final Fantasy franchise.
Elsewhere, Nomura-san divulged a few design tidbits on FFVII, specifically regarding the character of Yuffie. Apparently, the 16-year-old ninja was originally planned to be a wanted by the law, and the player would have seen posters all over Midgar showing her mug shot.
Furthermore, Yuffie’s picture would differ in appearance on every poster, and the last pin-up you saw would determine her likeness when she finally joins your party. In the final game, Yuffie was an optional character who could be hunted down, beaten and recruited to your team.
