Canadian publication La Presse is reporting that Square Enix plans on opening a second development studio in the region to prepare for the arrival of next-generation platforms.
According to the paper, the studio will open its doors next year and will boast a work force of at least 100 employees. In terms of a location, Square has got its sights on setting up shop in either Montreal, Quebec or Toronto.
“The new consoles from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will require more attention and more staff. We want to prepare ourselves,” commented Stephane D’Astous, director of the firm’s Eidos Montreal studio.
He further added that a final decision on the studio’s location will be made in May, stating "the negotiating process has begun".
Chatter on the next iteration of gaming platforms has been rife as of late, with Crytek recently commenting that it expects fresh hardware to show up in 2013.
As far as Sony goes though, SCEI boss Kazuo Hirai said last month that the console maker hasn’t even broached the topic of PlayStation 4 behind close doors.
