Square unveils FFXIII-2 DLC plans

Final Fantasy XIII-2 producer Yoshinori Kitase has lifted the lid on Square Enix’s downloadable content plans for the hotly-anticipated RPG sequel.

Speaking with Japanese publication Dengeki (via Andriasang), Kitase revealed that FFXIII-2 will receive one or two updates a month, with each one packing an assortment of items.

According to Kitase, Square is targeting a “good balance between price and the quality that customers will accept.”

FFXIII-2’s DLC will feature heaps of new additions in the form of costumes, weapons and enemies. However, accessing the new content will also be tied to various in-game objectives, such as defeating a monster to unlock an item.

The game’s predecessor, Final Fantasy XIII, did not receive any post-release content, with Kitase commenting at the time: "Regarding the DLC content, we feel that the final product is 100 per cent enjoyable… it’s the complete package. So we’re not planning any DLC at this time.”

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the U.S. on January 31, with a European launch arriving on February 3.
