As we await in anticipation of the Star Trek: Bridge Crew release date later this month, there’s some great news for virtual reality space travellers and wannabe bridge commanders.
Ubisoft has confirmed that players will be able to utilize voice commands to order around their virtual Starfleet crew when Star Trek: Bridge Crew launches on PlayStation VR and other platforms shortly.
“When playing as Captain on either ship, the U.S.S. Aegis or U.S.S. Enterprise, you’ll be able to speak direct, interactive commands to your shipmates,” says Ubisoft. “Captains can use Watson for any crew of less than four players. And where in the past voice commands in games have often been a source of frustration and controller-hurling, this new technology – built using IBM’s VR Speech Sandbox system – promises a far smoother and more responsive experience.”
In Star Trek: Bridge Crew players fly through space in search of a new homeworld for the Vulcans, but encounter an area of space occupied by the Klingons. Up to four players can adopt the roles of captain, engineer, helm office and tactical officer as they complete story quests and randomly generated missions.
The Star Trek: Bridge Crew release date is May 30 when it will launch on PS4 (PlayStation VR), as well as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
