Star Wars Battlefront 2 hinted at by EA, more Star Wars titles coming

Star Wars Battlefront is very likely to receive a sequel at some point down the line, Electronic Arts’ Chief Financial Officer, Blake Jorgensen, said during the UBS Global Technology Conference in San Francisco this week.

Speaking in light of Battlefront’s launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in the U.S. today, Jorgensen made it clear that the publishing giant isn’t done with the Star Wars IP by far. In addition to confirming plans to make more Battlefront games, he also said that other games based on the popular sci-fi movie franchise will be developed at some point.

"It’s a big effort for us, and I don’t think there’s a human being in the world who hasn’t heard of the Star Wars movie coming. And so, [it’s a] great opportunity," he said (via GameSpot). "We struck a licensing deal with Disney a few years back that’s almost ten years in length. The game that comes out tomorrow, Star Wars Battlefront, is a traditional first-person style shooter game. Our goal is to make future Battlefront games as well as other style games around the Star Wars franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC. It’s a huge opportunity for us."

Jorgensen also confirmed that his company’s deal with Disney covers not only all six Star Wars films, but also the forthcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens and planned spin-offs. However, he reitereated that EA has no plans to pump out movie tie-ins any time soon.

"We get access to all of the historical content as well as all the new content developed," he continued. "The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is it’s almost unlimited in what you can do with it. We know Disney has done a great job with other franchises and we believe they’ll do the same with Star Wars over time in delivering new worlds, new characters, new vehicles, all the things that make great video games. Our goal is not to make video games directly about the movies, it’s to use the IP in the movie to make great, exciting games."

One title that is very much anticipated among fans is the Star Wars project in development at Visceral Games, which former Naughty Dog writer Amy Hennig is involved with. While the game is rumoured to be an RPG, nothing else is known on the title right now and it remains to be seen when the game will actually see the light of day.

Star Wars Battlefront is out today for PS4, PC, and Xbox One in North America, and arrives in Europe this Friday. EA has confirmed details on the game’s Season Pass for you to check out, which costs $49.99 for a range of exclusive content. Battlefront has been confirmed to run at a stable 60fps on PS4 and is expected to clock in at a resolution of 900p.
