Electronic Arts has lifted the lid on a slew of Star Wars Battlefront 2 gameplay features, including new items known as Star Cards.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 Star Cards detailed
Posting in an update on its official website, the publishing giant revealed that Star Cards can be earned via unlockable in-game crates, and is currently being tested in the closed alpha for the upcoming sci-fi shooter. The Star Cards grant characters extra abilities via slots that can be switch in and out as you please.
“Take Darth Maul’s spin attack for example,” said EA. “This powerful maneuver might be modified by specific Star Cards to travel further or move faster. Boba Fett players might employ a Star Card that extends his For the Hunt ability to reveal enemies not just in his own scanner, but to nearby allies as well.”
The publisher also revealed that Star Cards will be able to benefit hero ships and star fighters, and won’t just be limited to heroes and troopers. In addition to pinching them from crates, these items can also be obtained by completing in-game challenges and quests.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 release date confirmed
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on November 17, 2017. Unlike its predecessor, the game will feature a dedicated single-player campaign in addition to a comprehensive online multiplayer, and features appearances by characters from the latest Star Wars films, including Kylo Ren, Rey, and Finn. Content from all three major Star Wars eras will be present in the game.
While DICE is handling primary development duties, Star Wars Battlefront 2’s production is also receiving input from Criterion Games and Motive Studios, the latter headed by former Assassin’s Creed producer, Jade Raymond. EA has decided to eschew a traditional Season Pass for the sequel, and will instead provide free DLC for those who own an EA account.
